Why I belong Part 2

Why I belong

I would not be where I am today if not for the people that made me who I am. I have been influenced greatly by my parents and my peers and I thank them greatly for it. These influences have made me realize that I am incredibly lucky to belong to such a great family, to have an education, and to have such good friends.

Without my parents I would not be here today, literally. Not only did they raise me to be who I am today, but they have also always encouraged me to be the best I can be. They never tell me what to do, instead, they tell me to make my own decisions because they trust me, and they know that I can make the right decisions that will take me where I want to go.

My friends have also shaped me and made me feel belonged. Whenever I have needed someone to talk to, or someone to hang out with, my friends have always been there. They make sure that I am not alone in this world and they will help with almost everything. Friends are essential to making sure you feel belonged.

Education is the main key to success. Knowledge truly is power. With knowledge, you can do anything. I am unbelievably fortunate to have such a great education because it will help me in the future. I love my desire to learn because learning makes me feel like I belong and there are millions of kids in the world who do not get the opportunity to do so, therefore, I feel extremely blessed.

Why Do I Belong?

Why Do I Belong?

I belong for many reasons. I am a unique individual that is going to be a part of the future as a university student, an inspiration to others, and I am someone that belongs. I belong to my community, my family, my country, and everything I associate myself with. My surroundings truly make me belong. I know who I am and I have worked hard to be successful as a student right now. I plan on gaining more knowledge and going to college. I belong because I know who I am, but I have worked hard to be better person and I plan on being even better.

I belong to a traditional family where respect means everything. My dad has told me numerous times, “respect takes you places in life.” I grew up respecting my family and the people around me. I try to avoid using hateful comments and I also try being as respectful as possible. My family always encourages me to do my best in school because we moved here so I, along with my siblings could have a better life; a life that my parents couldn’t have. I have learned many things here, and I want to learn more. I want to expand my learning and become a professional at something I love.

Going to college has always been one of my dreams, and ever since sixth grade, when I joined this program; I have been working towards my goal. This means I have had to sacrifice some stuff, while all my friends GPA’s have gone down, mine keeps going up. Its because I care about my future and a lot of my friends just want to, “live in the moment.” I feel like I still belong with my friends though because they have been there for me and even though they don’t care about their future as much as me, they still are my friends.

My experiences make me different because I have gone through many things in my life. I had to leave my country, Kosovo, to come to America to start a new life. People often view me as “white” in PEOPLE program and many people say I don’t belong here. I completely disagree with that because I feel like I belong just as much if not more then anyone in this program. I have worked just as hard as everyone else and I like everyone here.

I belong as a University student because I have worked hard to be one. I plan on doing much more to increase my chances of being a university student. I feel like I belong because being a student at UW Madison and having a good career is the thing that drives me the most. When I don’t want to do homework, I just think about how it is going to help me in the long run and how it will help me succeed.

I know I belong in many places. I belong as a student, an athlete, a brother, a son, and many other things. I belong because I am accepted, and I am unique. I think differently, I act differently, I am different.

Discourse

A Discourse according to James Paul Gee in "Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistics: Introduction and What Is Literacy?" is saying-writing-doing-being-valuing-believing combinations. This helps us prepare for college by letting us learn about new things and having different Discourses is good because it teaches us new things about new people. You also have to learn new discourses in order to prepare yourself for the challenges that college brings. For example, you have to learn how to interact with new people and learn how to live on your own. You cant depend on anyone but yourself.
I myself have many discourses. I act differently around different people.

Inequality of Mankind

Multiple gunshots fill the block, the fun stops
Niggaz is callin cops, people shot, nobody stop
I wonder when the world stopped caring last night
Two kids shot while the block staring
I will never understand society, first they try,
to murder me, then they lie to me, product of a dying breed

Starin Through My Rear View--Tupac Shakur

I think this is a great piece by Tupac because not only is it a good song, but it also tells a lot about society and people. It shows how the streets have changed and how violence has erupted. Tupac also says that people have stopped caring and I agree. Many people don't take action against violence in the streets and many young kids are dying every day because of it.
